This toothpaste ﬂavor is inspired by the top-selling TheraBreath oral rinse, Invigorating Icy Mint. The organization’s new focus beyond comprehensive dentistry comes at a time when much has been written and researched in recent years about the oral-systemic connection. Plenty of scientific evidence shows that oral health directly impacts overall health, and vice versa.

PDS has long pioneered the inclusion of dental specialty areas such as orthodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, and pediatric dentistry into general dentistry practices. Recently the organization expanded into primary medical care.

The announcement this week of the introduction of PDS Health is more than just a name change. It represents a redefinition of the organization's identity and reflection of its broadened mission to drive dental-medical integration to improve patient health outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.

PDS Health states a commitment to driving innovations and curating new technologies designed to strengthen dental-medical integration. The facility will also house the future Thorne Center for Excellence, a leadership academy established to help build the next generation of clinical and non-clinical leaders for the company.

The company officially opened its headquarters Monday, April 22, at a grand opening event attended by Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, City of Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero and Henderson city officials.

PDS Health will continue to operate support centers in Irvine, California, Dallas, Texas, and the Henderson location. Additionally, there are plans to open an additional support center in Miami later this year, the company says.

2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the organization's founding, celebrating 3 decades of growth, innovation, and service. The company is known for offering great mentorship, access to advanced, proven technology and an environment that elevates the roles of oral health care professionals to improve the overall health of patients.

As part of its efforts to enhance dental-medical integration, the organization has achieved many significant milestones, such as implementing Epic (EpicSystemsCorporation), the largest electronic health records system in the U.S., across all supported dental practices.

It also opened several co-located dental and medical practices in Las Vegas, and established a joint venture with MemorialCare health system to open co-located oral health and primary care practices in Southern California, with the inaugural site launching successfully in December 2023.

Along with new name, the comprehensive healthcare organization has a new headquarters in Henderson, Nevada.

Avēsis and Harmony Health have announced a new collaboration aimed at addressing oral health care disparities among underserved Medicaid populations with special health care needs. Through a pioneering pilot program set to launch in May 2024 across 4 states—California, Florida, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia—the initiative seeks to transform preventive dentistry using real-time salivary testing and screening, according to a press release from the companies.

Leveraging advanced dental technology, the pilot program integrates comprehensive saliva testing into dental check-ups. This non-invasive approach aims to enhance patient care by offering quick insights into oral health conditions and individuals' oral hygiene habits based on salivary insights.

Brian Jones, Chief Growth Officer of Avēsis, emphasized the importance of addressing oral health challenges faced by individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He stated in the press release, "Our goal is to do more for patients with special health care needs–to break down barriers with innovative technologies that improve preventive care. This is the first-ever chairside salivary test that offers immediate results–what this will do for early disease detection and personalized treatment is significant.”

Salivary biomarker analysis enables dental professionals to identify systemic and oral diseases such as diabetes, gum disease, and cavities, per the press release. Dr Tina Saw, President of Harmony Health's Board of Directors, expressed excitement about leveraging innovative technologies to redefine preventive health care.

"As pioneers in advancing new technologies within underserved communities, we are excited to collaborate with Avēsis to leverage this technology for those who need it the most,” Dr Saw said in the press release. “By harnessing the power of innovative technologies like salivary testing and artificial intelligence, we are redefining preventive health care. In what looks to be a prominent partnership in the dental industry, the Ivoclar Group and SprintRay just announced a collaboration that brings together a big dental materials manufacturer with a leading 3D printing company.

News of this partnership broke last weekend at SprintRay’s 3DNext New Era event in Miami Beach, Florida. Heinz and SprintRay’s CEO Dr Amir Mansouri shared their joint vision with the dental sector during the event, which was held April 19-21.

What’s being called the world’s thinnest veneer just cleared a big hurdle to being used as cosmetic dental veneers.

Boston Micro Fabrication (BMF) announced on Monday that it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its innovative UltraThineer™ material. The material is used to create what the company says is the world’s thinnest veneer.

The new 3D-printed veneers use projection micro stereolithography (PµSL) technology that allows for greater resolution, accuracy and precision to custom-manufacture veneers that are 3 times thinner than traditional veneers. Additionally, UltraThineer is said to require signiﬁcantly less preparation for dental professionals, allowing preservation of the patient’s original enamel with a more realistic ﬁnal appearance.

"We are thrilled to hear that the UltraThineer veneer has received FDA 510(k) clearance. This is a signiﬁcant milestone for our industry as having the ability to 3D print veneers in zirconia is a game changer for dental technology,” Dany Karam, president of Advanced Dental Technologies, a full-service dental laboratory in Stoneham, Massachusetts, says in a press release. “This breakthrough allows us to offer patients high quality veneers that require minimum prepping. This is just the beginning of our journey to revolutionize dental care, and we look forward to working with BMF to begin offering the UltraThineer to dental patients across the country.”

Developed in collaboration with Peking University, dental labs can now offer this precise alternative to traditional veneers for dental practices across the U.S., powered by BMF’s unique, micro-scale printing technology. UltraThineer veneers feature advanced material, a production workﬂow, and the ﬁnishing process designed to deliver more comfortable and less invasive options in cosmetic dentistry.

3D printing is already commonly used for other dental applications including orthodontic aligners, mouth guards, drill guides, and dentures as this additive manufacturing process can meet the need for on-demand, personalized, and custom solutions.

“After reﬁning this process, technology and material for the last year, we’re incredibly encouraged by the FDA’s expedient review of the UltraThineer material so we can quickly bring it to consumers looking for a more streamlined veneer solution,” adds ProfessorSun Yuchun, Peking University School of Stomatology, in the press release. “With the same durability as traditional veneers, dental labs across the U.S. can now deliver an improved veneer option that isn’t as invasive for the patient, minimizing tooth reduction and improving the overall appearance of teeth.”

BMF has begun to partner with dental labs throughout the country and expects to have the products commercially available in the second half of 2024, the company states. The UItraThineer material represents the latest innovation delivered by the Massachusetts business. The company continues to explore and establish new applications where its technology can reduce production time and cost.

“We’ve continued to innovate our solutions and explore end-use applications that can be uniquely enabled by the PµSL process in dentistry and the life sciences. We are very pleased with our recent 510(k) clearance and the progress we’ve made towards commercializing this technology to offer more options for patients considering cosmetic dentistry,” states John Kawola, CEO-Global, BMF.

BMF also is developing complementary cosmetic dentistry offerings in international markets to support both direct-to-patient and provider-enabled access to thinner veneers. Venust is the consumer cosmetic dentistry solution available in China (

BMF enables precise, micro-scale 3D printing across healthcare, the life sciences, electronics, and machining industries. The microArch system printers are designed to produce accurate and precise high-resolution 3D prints for product development, research, and industrial short run production.

The company says material will be used to create the world’s thinnest cosmetic veneers, and will require less tooth prep.

BMF Gets FDA Clearance for UltraThineer Veneer Material

OrthoSelect, an orthodontics software company, has just announced a new collaboration with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) experts Relu. This partnership will integrate OrthoSelect's DIBS AI® software platform with the Relu® Engine CBCT visualization software, according to a press release from OrthoSelect.

The fusion of DIBS AI and Relu Engine technology aims to empower practitioners with new insight into their patients' dental landscapes. With this integrated system, orthodontists gain access to comprehensive 3D views of teeth, roots, bone structures, and airways, facilitating precise treatment planning and accelerating treatment outcomes, per the press release. This integration will reportedly enable practitioners to streamline treatment processes, reduce repositions, and mitigate clinical challenges such as fenestrations, dehiscence, and root collisions.

This partnership aims for ease-of-use, with a drag-and-drop interface for practitioners to upload patients' DICOM® images from CBCT scans to the DIBS AI system. This integration with intraoral scans streamlines the case setup process, providing orthodontists with a cohesive overview of each patient's unique dental profile for efficient approval and treatment planning.

The CBCT integration feature is offered as an add-on option to DIBS AI, allowing practitioners to tailor their usage based on individual case needs. With no minimum case requirements or long-term commitments, this partnership ensures that this technology is within reach for orthodontic practices of all sizes.

Steven Gardner, President of OrthoSelect, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration in the press release, “We decided to work with Relu because our 2 systems complement each other so well, ad the Relu platform is so polished and such a great technology.”
