Keeping your fee schedules up-to-date is imperative to keeping your practice healthy. Keeping your fee schedules up-to-date is imperative to keeping your practice healthy. There are many important factors to take into account including geography, your patients, how you practice and data from other practices in your area. However, quality data on fees in your zip code can be challenging to find.
Sikka Software collects data from thousands of dental practices across the nation. Data collected is free of identifying information and is compliant with HIPAA and privacy laws. Our vast network of dentists allows Sikka to share trends on practice management and fee schedules. In preparation for the new year, Sikka has provided nationwide data on 18 procedure codes as well as trends for some key regions and codes.
Data trends
2015 data was broken down by codes for some of the most popular procedures including prophylaxis, crowns, and resin based composites. Data was collected for the minimum, median, and 60th through 100 th percentiles.
Regional Trends
Depending on where you practice, fees have changed at different rates over the past three years. The largest changes in median codes occurred in the Northeast, with the smallest changes occurring in the Southwest. This is not unexpected; smaller fee increases in the Southwest are likely due to the region already having some of the highest fee schedules in the United States. Rising costs of living in the Northeast is likely the driver of narrowing the gap between dental prices in these regions.
Endodontics
Overall, Endodontics codes are among the codes that have increased the most in the past three years, with the average fee of D3310 (Endodontic therapy, anterior tooth) increasing as much as 7.47% during this time period. This reflects the increase in value of procedures requiring highly skilled practitioners.
