Bluelight Receives Patent for its CheckUp Smart Radiometer

The company’s curing light monitoring system utilizes precision optical sensors and machine learning algorithms to accurately bring laboratory grade curing light testing to ensure optimal curing time for the specific dental material being cured.

Bluelight Analytics, a dental curing expertise company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has just been granted US patent No. 11,850,109 for the technology behind its CheckUp Smart Radiometer. The curing light monitoring system utilizes precision optical sensors and machine learning algorithms to accurately bring laboratory grade curing light testing to dental clinics around the world.

“This patent award is the culmination of over a decade of research and development with some of the top minds in the world of dental academia. No other radiometer on the market today has the vast amount of data and analytics behind it,” says Chris Felix, chief scientist at Bluelight Analytics, in a press release. “This technology affords dental staff the reassurance that they are delivering optimal light output to their restorations so that patients get top notch dental care.”

The CheckUp Smart Radiometer takes into account curing light output, coupled with curing tip circumference and crosses this information to a back-end data base of thousands of light-cured materials to offer recommendations on curing times and compatibility. This vast analysis is distilled down into a simple stop-light style output to allow dental staff to make decisions on the state of their curing light in coordination with their materials to ensure proper curing and fewer remakes.

CheckUp is a system designed to allow for regular tests of a curing light's performance. When paired with the company’s CheckUp app, it provides custom insight into the optimal curing time for the specific dental material being cured by the light being monitored.

Bluelight Analytics was founded out of Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada in 2009. Since then, the company has been at the forefront of light measurement technology, using its expertise to improve clinical and business outcomes for dentists, Dental Service Organizations (DSOs), and manufacturers around the world. These products are designed to fill the knowledge gap that exists between light-cured resin materials and the curing lights, helping clinicians polymerize confidently, DSOs increase consistency, and manufacturers find success with their customers, Bluelight Analytics states.
