In October 2010, I attended the American Dental Association’s annual conference in Orlando. Just a few months before, I started a Facebook page for our practice and was struggling to come up with new and interesting posts. Biting the bullet

Some magicians have been known to amaze crowds with a trick where it appears they are catching bullets with their teeth. However, the tooth marks found on a 200-year-old musket ball on display at The Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry, on loan from Kathy Lee Erlandson, are more likely to have come from a wounded soldier than a showman from two centuries ago. “Apparently there’s some credence to the ‘bite the bullet’ for pain kind of thing,” said Museum Curator Dr. Scott Swank.

In one of his photos, the green and blue bristles of a toothbrush resemble an elaborate maze that requires precise navigation. Placed at a different angle, that same toothbrush takes on a stage-like appearance with a blue and green curtain.

It all can be a bit overwhelming. It seems like there’s always some new product to try, adding to the other countless options you already had. While innovation and new product development is great for the industry and your patients, it can be difficult for you and your team members to know what’s up to par, and what products are best suited for your patients and your practice.
