Weekly new dental products roundup - November 12, 2012

Parkell, Inc. debuted its new economical DryZ™ gingival retraction paste during the ADA Annual Session this week in San Francisco.

“It is being received extremely well,” said Chuck W. Ferrara, 

’s Director of Customer Satisfaction. “Ninety-percent of the customers who came by the booth want to see the product or are asking about the product.”

The fast-acting retraction paste stops bleeding and seepage that may interfere with impression taking. It is said to be great for tissue management when seating restorations, placing rubber dams, bleaching teeth and restoring subgingival cavities.

The light green color of the retraction paste makes the material easier to detect. It can be used alone or with retraction cord and impression caps.

The paste can easily be removed with an air/water syringe and leaves no residue to interfere with impressions or seating restorations. It also can be used for tissue management.

Using the paste can save clinicians at least 30% compared to other similar products, according to Ferrara. Parkell offers a 45-day trial period to anyone trying the paste for the first time. If someone does not like the product for any reason, they need only call and Parkell will pick up the product, no questions asked.

QSI Dental is working to not only get dentists’ heads thinking about the Cloud, but putting their practices into it. Demonstrations of the company’s QSIDental™ Web cloud-based solution are being held at their booth throughout the ADA’s 153

 Annual Session this week in San Francisco.

New and enhanced clinical functionality has recently been added to provide better treatment planning. Dentists are being very receptive to the service because they are doing more and more Cloud-based activities in their personal lives and see the value it can provide to their practice, said Noll.

Described as Software as a Service (SaaS) anywhere, QSIDental Web can provide treatment planning, practice management, billing, scheduling from any location and with 24/7 support.

ADA 2012: QSI Dental helps put dental practices into the cloud

Oral-B donated $5,000 to promote awareness of the link between oral health and overall health and announced, on Thursday, a new Deep Sweep Power Brush during the ADA 153

Dr. Jonathan B. Levine, seen often on TV’s Dr. Oz show, is also part of the Glo Foundation, which helps create awareness of oral health. He and Maurice Coffey, Director of Oral Care with Procter and Gamble, presented a check for $5,000 to the San Francisco Dental Hygiene Society, which works with underserved populations to get them oral care.

“We are creating awareness of what is important for oral health and overall oral care,” explained Levine. For more information, see 

“We are proud to be the first to receive a donation from Procter and Gamble,” said Susan Lopez, who accepted the check with Margaret Fisher, both of the society. The funds will be used to assist English and non-English speaking children in the San Francisco area with their oral care needs.

Additionally,  Coffey introduced the new and not-yet on the market Deep Sweep Power Brush. “It gives the same comfort you would expect to find from an Oral-B product,” he explained. “It mimics the design and comfort of a manual brush.”

ADA 2012: Oral-B donates funds, announces new power brush

The show floor for the American Dental Association’s (ADA) 153rd Annual Session opened this morning and will run through Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

There are 600 companies exhibiting, with 125 of them being first-time exhibitors, according to the ADA. More than 33,000 attendees from 83 different countries are participating in this year’s session.

There will be more than 280 continuing education courses, more than 60 hands-on workshops including six live-patient courses in the “Education in the Round” learning format and a variety of high-tech courses in the ADA CE Hub. A new hands-on cadaver workshop is scheduled at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry Oct. 18-21.

ADA 2012: It's Show Time

The DentalEZ Grou unveiled its RAMVAC® Osprey family of dental air compressors this week during the ADA’s 153

“We’ve been developing this for the past two years,” said Ryon Waddington, Senior Product Manager for DentalEZ. “We had to make sure it was going to be as reliable and bulletproof as other RAMVAC systems.”

The quiet design of the compressors provides clean, dry, oil-free air in even the busiest dental office environment.

“The response has been positive,” Waddington said. “It’s really exciting for us.”

With high quality air at a maximum pressure of 115 psi, the Osprey compressor operates at 100% duty cycle during peak operation times. The rocking piston design technology provides quiet operation while still producing more peak airflow than other compressors on the market. This is especially important with more dental equipment than ever requiring quality compressed air for optimal operation.

“Worry-free utility room equipment is the starting point for an efficient dental practice,” said Waddington. “RAMVAC compressors provide the dental professional freedom to focus on patient care, not equipment repair. We are extremely confident that the Osprey will become a utility room staple of the dental practice.”

There’s also an Owl Touch remote monitoring system that service technicians can use with the compressor systems. It features a 7-day calendar for scheduling things like turning lights or coffee makers on/off at specific times at the practice.

 Osprey compressors are available in either Basic or Smart control platforms:

 • Basic control platform - employs a traditional pressure switch and contactor arrangement to control the cycling of the compressor heads. Basic controls are equipped with switches to isolate or turn off individual heads (as required by NFPA99C) and hour meters.

 • Smart control platform (C2 Control) - utilizes a more modern digital technology, utilizing a pressure transducer and solid state relays to control cycling. Smart controls also feature head isolation, current sensing (head amperage draw), maintenance reminders, fault notifications, and average drain and recharge times.

The dual column desiccant dryer provides 100% continuous supply of dry clean free air. While one column is drying, the other is in operation. Moreover, desiccant cartridges are replaced right in the office.

The Osprey is offered in the following user sizes:

OSP22 1-3 User - single head, 2 hp, and 12 gallon tank

OSP13 3-4 User - 115 volt option, dual head, 2½ total hp, and 12 gallon tank

ADA 2012: DentalEZ unveils compressors, monitoring system

J. Morita is introducing its new TorqTech attachments at the ADA’s 153rd annual session in San Francisco this week. The company is so excited about the new attachments that they are giving them away.

There’s a coupon in the ADA brochure and attendees can enter to win. One TorqTech contra angle will be given away each day of the show from those who stop by the booth and drop off their entry coupon.

“It completes our handpiece line,” explained Walid Wardaki, J. Morita’s Vice President Merchandise Sales.

They are compatible with both air and electric motors. The TorqTech attachment product line includes a 1:1 straight nose cone, 1:1 contra angle, and a 1:5 speed up contra angle.

Designed with a new high-precision gear system, TorqTech is said to offer reduced operational noise and excellent bur stability which makes large preparations quicker and easier. The chuck provides a strong grip on the bur and is also long lasting. A built-in water filter helps prevent clogging of the spray line and is easily removed for cleaning.

“They are the lightest, quietest, smallest heads in the market,” said Wardaki.

J. Morita has more than 200 engineers who work on their products, he explained. J. Morita engineers who are assigned to work on handpieces, work on them for their entire careers with the company. “It’s helped us in terms of quality,” he said.
