One of the phrases that generates buzz, excitement, and confusion is when a dental practice starts talking about “going paperless.” What does that mean? What are the steps? How will it affect the workflow? What effect will it have on the patients? These are all legitimate questions … and they are all questions that will be answered during an upcoming Webinar.

Dayna Johnson, a national speaker on the topic of dental practices going paperless will be leading a webinar titled, “The path to going paperless.” The webinar is sponsored by Henry Schein Practice Solutions.

“The paperless topic creates a lot of confusion because there are a lot of assumptions and fear about change,” said Johnson, the founder of Rae Dental Management, a national blogger for Dentrix, and a practice management consultant. “There really isn’t anything to be afraid of or anything that should make a dentist or dental practice wonder if it’s the right thing to do. When done properly, making the transition from paper charts to electronic health records is not only the smart thing to do as a business, but also will ensure your practice is seen as tech-savvy by your patient base.”

Johnson estimates she has helped nearly 100 practices down the path to paperless and says that every journey down that path starts with a very important step.

“Both the dentist and his or her team has to believe it’s the right thing to do, both for the business and the patients,” Johnson said. “There are always going to be excuses on why you shouldn’t change something in your practice, but if it makes things more efficient for you and your patients, why wouldn’t you do it?”
