The updated Lava™ Design Software 5.0 from 3M ESPE (3mespe.com/lava) offers great flexibility for designing and fabricating custom zirconia abutments and copings.
The workflow allows complete control of the design in the digital workspace, or the ability to scan a waxup for milling from a traditional design technique. Designs can be fine-tuned with precise control of cement gaps, connectors and other critical design considerations.
When working on implant cases with the Lava Digital Veneering System (DVS), just one scan of the titanium implant interface is needed to complete the design of the custom Lava™ Zirconia abutment, coping and DVS crown.
The software is now capable of creating a Lava Zirconia abutment for almost any implant system without the need for a scan locator.
A typical case can begin with scanning the model in the Lava Scan ST, and from there the system is capable of designing implant abutments, zirconia frameworks, wax/resin patterns, metal frameworks and full-contour Lava DVS restorations. Zirconia and True Wax patterns can be fabricated on Lava milling machines, while wax and resin patterns can be sent for production on a range of 3D printing systems, and metal substructures can be sent via the Lava Connect Portal for production by approved laser sintering systems.
