A look at the benefits this dental practice experienced after switching to OraCare Health Rinse.
The Practice
David A. Little, DDS, maintains a multidisciplinary practice in San Antonio, Texas. Professionals in Dentistry is a general practice with multispecialty support that performs all phases of dentistry, with a focus on implant and restorative dentistry. He graduated from the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry in 1984.
The Prior Solution
Prior to implementing OraCare, Dr Little and his team used chlorhexidine. Chlorhexidine gluconate is a germicidal mouthwash that reduces bacteria.
Upgrade Inspiration
Patient adherence: “At postop appointments I would ask, ‘How come you did not rinse with chlorhexidine as directed?’ They would answer, ‘Because it stained my teeth, and I did not like the taste,’ ” Dr Little explains.
With no burning and no staining, the sulfate-free OraCare is formulated to taste great and is used to help patients on a regular basis. “Chlorhexidine adverse effects [AEs] include staining and calculus formation, and it does not eliminate volatile sulfur compounds [VSCs], viruses, or fungi.”
The New Solution
OraCare Health Rinse
OraCare has harnessed the power of activated chlorine dioxide using a 2-bottle system. Because true chlorine dioxide is a gas, the 2 products must stay separated until ready to use. When rinsing, place equal parts of OraCare (4 pumps from each bottle) into the cup, allow the product to activate for 30 seconds, then rinse for 30 to 60 seconds. OraCare’s Activated Oral Cleanser is described as a great addition to any oral hygiene regimen because of its lack of adverse effects: no staining, no additional calculus/tartar buildup, and no altered taste. Improving daily hygiene can help prevent disease, and disease is easier to handle before it establishes itself.
OraCare kills bacteria, VSCs, fungi, and viruses. In addition, it breaks up biofilm, reduces bleeding/inflammation, and promotes tissue health without AEs associated with chlorhexidine.
“OraCare has improved our practice in many areas,” Dr Little adds. “First, we use it as a prerinse prior to all procedures. Our goal is to minimize the microbes prior to treatment. OraCare’s activated oral cleanser has been a great addition to our hygiene regimen, providing patients with excellent results without the AEs of staining, calculus buildup, and altered taste.”
There is an established systemic link between oral health and general health, so it is more important than ever for individuals to use the right oral health care products to achieve optimum health. The health rinse assists all patients, especially those with gum problems, dry mouth, braces (or other hard-to-clean areas), or bad breath.
OraCare helps with a number of mouth issues including periodontal disease, and it has also been effective for patients with cold sores.
“Improving daily hygiene can help prevent disease, and disease is easier to handle before it establishes itself in the mouth,” says Dr Little. “The product is easy to use and produces noticeable results. Once patients use OraCare they continue to use the product.”
What’s Up Next
Implants are a big part of Dr Little’s practice and maintaining the health of implant restorations is important to long-term success. So, he also recommends OraCare’s REASSURE Implant Care Kit to provide a simple solution to protect dental implants. The regimen that the kit provides with the effectiveness of the active ingredients allows for immediate protection during implant placement with the in-office gel. It also provides improved home care with a simple rinse to be used during the critical healing period.
The protocol includes having the patient prerinse prior to implant placement, then the gel is placed on the surgical site around the implant and left for 3 minutes, then rinsed. The patient is given the rinse to use 3 times a day for the first 34 days.
