York, Pa.-Recently students and faculty from The Ohio State University and The University of Maryland Graduate Prosthodontics programs were accompanied by personnel from the NIST/ADA Paffenbarger Research Center for tours of DENTSPLY Prosthetics and DENTSPLY Professional manufacturing facilities.

According to Jeff Huff, DENTSPLY Prosthetics National Accounts Manager, Clinics and Schools, who arranged the visit, “The field trip enabled students, faculty and staff of the three groups to observe the manufacturing process and to better understand the science and technology behind the products that they know and use, such as Portrait® IPN® denture teeth, Cavitron® ultrasonics and OsteoGraf® specialty materials.”

In addition to time-tested products, participants saw the latest technologies in action at DENTSPLY Compartis®, which provides centralized milling services to Dental Laboratories for fixed prosthetic substructures, as well as Compartis® ISUS implant suprastructures. After a quick cross-town trip, visitors toured the prevention-oriented and specialty materials operations of DENTSPLY Professional.

Participants included Drs. Julie Holloway, Michael Scherer, Andy Gilbert, Emilie L'Homme-Langlois and Hatim Leghuel (The Ohio State University) Carl Driscoll, Kian Meng Tan, Joanna Kempler, Monica Parekh, Elias Rivera, Daniel Greenbaum, Garima Talwar, Yinghan Tan, Ismail Okasha, Gillian Alexander and Daniel Harning (University of Maryland). Additionally, George Quinn and Kathleen Hoffmann represented the NIST/ADA.

Both Drs. Holloway and Driscoll happily recalled earlier tours of the DENTSPLY York operations, and appreciated the insights and learning opportunities for their students.
