With a new chimney height option of 5.5 mm, the Variobase for Crown can be customized down to a height of 3.5 mm, a design choice intended to ensure an ideal restorative solution for the patient
The latest updates from Straumann offer an extended chimney height and a better solution for bar and bridge restorations.
Based on customer feedback, Straumann® is expanding the Straumann® Variobase® Abutment portfolio to offer an extended chimney height and a new, non-engaging abutment for bar and bridge restorations.
With a new chimney height option of 5.5 mm, the Variobase for Crown can be customized down to a height of 3.5 mm, a design choice intended to ensure an ideal restorative solution for the patient. The patented engaging mechanism of the 4 “cams” ensures exact seating and rotational lock of the coping or crown to the abutment, reportedly delivering a reliable, customized final restoration.
Due to the rising popularity of multiple-unit, fixed-hybrid restorations, Straumann is also releasing a new Variobase for screw- or cement-retained bridge and bar restorations, offering flexible and cost-effective solutions for multiple-unit restorations. Its conical design features special grooves for bonding retention and a reference edge for long-term stability and passive fit of the bridge or bar.
Steve Sheehan, Vice President Laboratory Division, North America, says: “Our vision is to be a ‘total solutions provider’ for dental laboratories for implant-borne prosthetics. It is crucial that we continue to develop prosthetic products that provide a full spectrum of solutions for our customers. We are committed to increasing our product and service offerings that help the dental laboratory community meet the needs of their referring clinicans and ultimately, patients seeking implant therapy.”

Both Variobase Abutment solutions demonstrate the original Straumann connection, which features matching components, long-term reliability and the 10-year Straumann Guarantee®. Technicians reportedly can save time by skipping the sandblasting step as the cams and grooves, respectively, provide for an optimal bonding surface. Every laboratory can access the Variobase Abutment portfolio via the CARES® in-lab scanners, CARES® App, or CARES® Scan & Shape Service, an on-demand design service for original Straumann restorations.
