In this month’s product roundup we present some of the industry's best intraoral cameras.
©vmargineanu / stock.adobe.com The world’s first photographic portrait was taken in October 1839 by Alexander S. Wolcott, a creator of dental supplies. This development inspired the publication of the world’s first dental journal, the American Journal of Dental Science . Since then, dentists have used photography to capture both extra- and intraoral images of the oral cavity. Restorative dentistry was in demand as dentists could now monitor patient conditions and offer photographs of their progress.
Both photography and dentistry have come a long way in the intervening years. But it wasn’t until the late 1980s that the first true intraoral camera was introduced. These analog units eventually gave way to the sleek, digital intraoral cameras of today. Modern cameras have the ability to capture both intra- and extraoral images and offer early caries detection. Read on to take a look at some of the latest intraoral cameras.
