Roland DGA announces launch of intelligent new DGSHAPE wet mill

The DWX-42W reportedly incorporates improvements to the original DWX wet-milling platform for even greater overall performance.

Roland DGA has announced that DGSHAPE Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Roland DG Corporation and a leading provider of dental milling machines and other digital fabrication tools, has launched its new DWX-42W wet dental mill. The successor to DGSHAPE’s popular DWX-4W wet mill, the DWX-42W reportedly incorporates improvements to the original DWX wet-milling platform for even greater overall performance.

The DWX-42W is designed to fit the milling needs of both dedicated labs and in-clinic labs. It's engineered to provide on-demand milling of glass ceramics and composite resin materials, producing crowns, small bridges, inlays, onlays, veneers and other prosthetics. For labs, the DWX-42W represents a standalone wet-milling solution, reportedly allowing for quick, cost-effective and highly esthetic CAD/CAM restorations. For in-clinic labs, it's said to enable dental offices and practices to provide a same-day restoration service for their patients.

The DWX-42W is an intelligent machine that offers effortless production and superior results. Its new machine features include increased Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) capacity with six stations, ethernet connectivity, newly designed nozzles and coolant tank, and new grinding burs. It also boasts a newly engineered DGSHAPE spindle (patent pending) – the culmination of more than 35 years of Roland spindle-building experience. Additional key upgrades reportedly include reduced air pressure and volume requirements (which eliminates the need for an additional compressor), up to 50 percent faster milling times, and the ability to connect to the device over a network.

“This advanced yet easy-to-use machine takes DGSHAPE wet-milling technology to the next level,” says Dwight Blair, Roland DGA’s dental product manager. “The DWX-42W is a fast, efficient, durable choice for dental professionals, offering new networking capabilities to improve lab or clinical services.”

In addition to its simple operation, the DWX-42W, like all DWX series dental mills, has an open architecture design that gives clinics and labs the freedom to use software and scanners that they’re already familiar with. The DWX-42W’s six-station ATC switches out grinding burs as needed for unattended production. Other state-of-the-art features include a Virtual Machine Panel (VPanel), which reportedly lets users quickly configure settings for up to four machines from a single computer. VPanel also monitors operational status, sends email notifications when milling has been completed, and allows for automatic maintenance procedures like calibrations and spindle run-ins.

“DGSHAPE users really appreciate that their DWX mills are ‘plug-and-play’ devices that can be operational minutes after setup,” Blair says. “This factor, along with the advantages of open architecture, shorten the learning curve and make integrating devices like the DWX-42W into any existing workflow a breeze.”
