Richmond Dental Launches Reusable Level 1 Isolation Gowns

Approved by the FDA under an Emergency Use Authorization, these new gowns are designed to be more economical and eco-friendly than disposable gowns.

To meet the heightened demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) during the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, Richmond Dental is launching a new, reusable isolation gown.

Authorized by the FDA under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for use as PPE, the reusable AAMI PB70 Barrier Protection Level 1 Isolation gowns are described as more economical and more eco-friendy than using disposable gowns. The reusable gowns are also said to be a more reliable option than counting on the normal PPE supply chains.

The kimono-style gowns are made of 65/35% polyester/cotton blend material that is made in the USA, and then cut and sewn in Mexico or Nicaragua. Each gown can be washed 100 times in a home washer or 25 times in a commercial laundry. The gowns feature elastic sleeve ends with natural rubber latex.

They are not proven effective for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19, but received the EUA from the FDA due to pandemic-related PPE shortages.
