New AdDent eyepiece magnifies abnormalities

The Bio/Screen Oral Exam Light is designed to serve as a supplement to the traditional oral exam to boost the visualization of oral mucosal abnormalities.

AdDent, Inc. has announced their new Bio/Screen Oral Exam Light magnifying eyepiece. This new device allows clinicians a closer view of the oral cavity tissue when screening for abnormalities, AdDent said in a statement.

The Bio/Screen Oral Exam Light is designed to serve as a supplement to the traditional oral exam to boost the visualization of oral mucosal abnormalities. The eyepiece accomplishes this by using its five violet LEDs, which show biofluorescence in the oral cavity while the operatory room lights are still turned on, according to AdDent.

An eyepiece and an optical viewing filter heightens the distinction between healthy and abnormal tissue without the need for a special rinse. The Bio/Screen’s improved design negates the need for a fan, allowing for quiet operation.

The device runs on an internal lithium ion battery pack, which is rated for 500 full recharge cycles, approximately 5 years of use, AdDent said. The battery pack is protected by means of a built-in safety circuit. The LEDs also maintain full power until the battery is drained, the company said. The Bio/Screen also has an auto-shut off feature, which puts the unit on standby mode and turns off the violet LED lights after five minutes of continuous on time to conserve battery power. A battery charge indicator and an on/off switch are both located on the viewing side of the handle.
