A look at some of the newest dental product launches in the industry.
Designed to enhance the GentleWave® system, Sonendo’s CleanFlow instrument is said to provide a less invasive option for root canal therapy. This new instrument allows for a procedure that does not require sealing caps or depth gauges, and it contains a SoundBAR inside so that the inside of the tooth can be cleaned from the outside. CleanFlow is also said to incorporate a fluid management mechanism as well as a technology called SoundCue™ that enables audio cues to know when the optimal seal is achieved. This comes with a FlowView™ window for visual cues and monitoring. CleanFlow is also designed to be used with just a 1-hand operation, which is said to improve the patient experience for its comfort and efficiency.
What Sets This System Apart
As the next addition to the GentleWave System, CleanFlow makes this endodontic technology easier for clinicians to use, and more comfortable for patients. This system is designed to change the way root canals are debrided and disinfected to make endodontic treatment more predictable.
The Infinity VUE Loupes are designed to provide a straightforward approach to ergonomics and are available in 3.0× and 3.5× magnification, with a 4.5× magnification option said to be coming later this year. Infinity VUE (Vision up Ergonomics) is said to keep practitioners’ chins up, necks straight, and eyes forward while viewing the oral cavity.
Why These Loupes Stand Out
Musculoskeletal issues plague clinicians, mainly due to bending over patients to gain access to the oral cavity. It may be even more physically demanding with a myriad of aerosol reduction devices in use, causing clinicians to move into a less desirable location in the operative area. The Infinity VUE Loupes are said to be the first solution by allowing clinicians to keep their heads, backs, and shoulders in a totally upright position. By changing the positioning of the internal prisms, these loupes allow you to see intraorally without having to bend your neck. Mounted on a Steam frame and with the side shields attached, the VUE Loupes weigh 3.2 oz.
The i700 is an intraoral scanner designed as a wireless wand with the same speed, accuracy, and lightness. It is said to offer a smooth and quick scanning experience backed by 60-Ghz wireless technology. All-day scanning is supported by a single battery, which offers 1 hour of continuous scanning and up to 8 hours in standby mode. The camera on the i700 Wireless is said to capture up to 70 frames per second. It features a reversible tip and wider scanning area, allowing for easy, comfortable scanning at any angle. A remote control button allows clinicians to check scan data from the scanner, and show patients. The self-disinfecting UV-C LED keeps the unit clean.
Why This Scanner Deserves Attention
The wireless scanner packs all the same features and technology of the wired version into a body lighter than many wired intraoral scanners. Additionally, the unit comes with 3 batteries to allow for seamless scanning throughout the day, and should all 3 batteries run out, the scanner can function with an attached wire when necessary.
[ Children’s Probiotic ]
Features ProBiora3®, a patented blend of the 3 most beneficial strains of good bacteria naturally found in the mouth.
ProBioraKids® is the first probiotic specially formulated to support kids’ oral and overall health. Providing a proprietary blend of the good bacteria native to the mouth, ProBioraKids crowds out the harmful, disease-causing bacteria that cause cavities, bad breath, and other oral health issues in kids. To best support their oral health, kids need to repopulate the good bacteria native to the mouth, helping fight against the pathogenic bacteria that brushing and flossing cannot reach. The probiotic naturally fills the mouth with the beneficial bacteria it needs for healthier teeth, crowding out the harmful, pathogenic bacteria and restoring the mouth’s natural balance. ProBioraKids comes in an orange Creamsicle-flavored lozenge. It is gluten-free, vegetarian friendly, and has no artificial flavors, sweeteners, or colors. Additionally, it is safe to use with dental appliances.
[Clear Aligner Treatment Planning ]
The new CBCT integration feature for ClinCheck digital treatment planning software is a user-friendly tool combining roots, bone, and crowns into a single 3D model that enables clinicians to visualize a patient’s roots as part of the digital treatment planning process. The CBCT integration helps dentists expand diagnosis and treat a broader range of cases with Invisalign aligners by increasing visibility and control of a patient’s underlying anatomical structures during digital treatment planning. The CBCT scan data are digitally fused with an intraoral scan resulting into a maneuverable 3D ClinCheck treatment plan model, making it convenient for doctors to tailor their treatment plans based on their patients’ needs. Designed as a high-quality, automated feature, the integration feature will be scaled in phases starting in the second half of 2022.
[Custom Forms]
NexHealth’s Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act–compliant custom forms are now available for dental practices. These custom forms can be integrated into the dental practice management system to automatically update patient information. There are also patient reminders to complete forms regularly. NexHealth is available with major practice management systems such as Dentrix, Open Dental, and Eaglesoft. NexHealth custom forms are said to cut down on time by eliminating the hassle of filling out each form individually. It touts a bidirectional integration with practice management systems.
[CAD/CAM Blocks]
The integration of VOCO materials to the Planmeca system is designed to help service a growing segment of CAD/CAM users. Grandio blocs are said to be high quality with many other milling systems and have excelled thanks to their toothlike properties, esthetics, and time-saving attributes. The nano-ceramic hybrid block eliminates the need for firing, saving time and money while simplifying optional characterization and intraoral repair.
[ Injection Delivery ]
Features an automatic switch-off in case of excessive resistance in the tissue.
CALAJECT helps clinicians deliver pain-free injections. The system controls the flow rate, which ensures smooth, gentle flow of anesthesia. Even palatal injections can be carried out with less discomfort for the patient. The light pen grip provides a relaxed working position and good finger support shows where the needle can be kept perfectly still in situ. The unit’s touchscreen displays actual injection pressure. The acoustic signal indicates the flow rate, and the unit is operated by a separate foot controller. CALAJECT features a handpiece and stand. The vibration-free handpiece allows clinicians to maintain visual contact with the cartridge during the entire injection. Automatic aspiration occurs when pressure on the foot pedal is eased. The system can be used with standard dental needles and cartridges.
[Implant Cementer]
Designed for dental practices and laboratories, the Quicr Quantum Implant Cementer offers the correct seating and cementing of crowns and abutments, saving time. Quicr Quantum comes in 3 parts—A, B, and C—that are easily assembled. Piece B screws into piece A and the Tibase/Abutment is quickly placed on part A/B. The abutment and crown are then treated and cement is mixed and placed on the Tibase/Abutment. The crown can then be placed on the abutment and excess cement is easily cleaned off. Piece C is screwed on to hold the crown in place.
[Autoclavable Knife]
The new 12A Autoclavable Knife is made of semicrystalline steel with the ability to be autoclavable reportedly more than hundreds of times. It is said to be sharp and is equipped with a 1¾-inch blade. This knife is designed to be stain resistant and touts a white, plastic handle. It is indicated for use in both dental practices and labs and has a carbon steel composition and a double end.
[Impression Material Delivery]
This new cartridge and mixing tip system is designed to optimize the application of conventional impression materials. With its newly developed design of the mixing tip, it can be easily fixed to the cartridge thanks to a turning wing and small alignment pin. A corresponding connection mechanism reduces the risk of cross-contamination between the base and catalyst components. The integrated 50-mL cartridge and mixing tip system requires only a 1-time bleed before first use, for the life of the cartridge. In combination with the reduced-volume cannula, material waste is said to be reduced by up to 64% and the number of uses per cartridge increased by 10 additional applications.
