The dental company takes a look back at 30 years of history behind their pressing technology.
In 1991, Ivoclar Vivadent came up with an idea that rather than use gold alloys for their restorations, they would instead utilize a pressed ceramic fabrication technique. This hot-pressing technique would help to avoid the wear and esthetic shortcomings of metal alloys.
This technique quickly became an alternative to casting dental alloys. These ceramic restorations had a wide range of benefits according to a press release from Ivoclar Vivadent. These benefits included compatibility with tooth structure, similar light transmission properties to dental enamel, and a natural tooth-like appearance.
Later in 2005, Ivoclar Vivadent introduced lithium disilicate glass-ceramic IPS e.max. This press ingot had a strong survival rate.
Looking to the future, Ivoclar Vivadent has utilized the 3D printing system PrograPrint to complement the conventional hot-pressing process. With a system that can help make things more efficient, Ivoclar Vivadent has ensured that the ceramic pressing technique is a “future-proof” manufacturing method.
