The first product from Incisive Technologies is a solution designed to make it easier to identify early carious lesions.
BlueCheck™ Caries Detection and Monitoring, a new preventive care solution from Incisive Technologies, recently received FDA 510(K) clearance and the product is expected to be available in September, according to a press release.
BlueCheck works by binding to active carious lesions and making them visible with its blue color. This reportedly provides clinicians with a way to both identify and measure the presence and progress of dental caries.
In the press release Incisive Technologies Chief Scientific Officer Jonathan Mangum explains that BlueCheck is a purpose-designed biomolecule featuring a protein, a linker, and the blue dye. The protein allows these biomolecules to use natural hydroxyapatite-binding chemistry to attach to sites of demineralization. The material is painted onto the patient's teeth, and after rinsing to wash out unbound particles, carious lesions remain blue. The BlueCheck dye can then be completely removed via brushing the teeth as well as via routine interaction with saliva.
