How Google Glass will impact dentists and the dental profession [VIDEO]

When we first talked to Kevin Kuo of Dentyzion in May, we learned about how his group worked with Surgitel to develop Google Glass loupes. Our discussion was one of the most popular articles on our site in May. Now, one month later, I sat down with Kuo to talk about new developments and how the dental profession will be impacted by Google Glass.

"We see a couple of different ways that Google Glass can be used in dentistry," Kuo said. "The first is on the education side while the bigger market would be private practice. We're focusing on using Google Glass in education right now because it's more easily implemented. With this being a brand new technology, we see it as being easier to implement in an academic setting. We see it as a tool for students to view the steps the instructor is taking and really learn from that."

However, Kuo believes a day is coming when Google Glass will be a part of the everyday dental practice.

"We are absolutely excited about everything that can be done with this in private practice and that's something we are working on as well," Kuo said. "With devices like this, it's basically a computer on your head. We need to see how it can be tied into practice management software so you are able to see a patient's health history form while you are working. For this to be truly useful in the practice, it has to work with the systems already in place and that is something we are working toward."
