Over the past 3 years, 3Shape has pursued patent infringement actions against Medit in 4 separate suits.
A German court recently dismissed 3Shape’s patent lawsuits against Medit Corp. Over the past 3 years, 3Shape has pursued patent infringement actions against Medit in 4 separate suits. There are 4 patents that were at the center of these cases, including European Patent (EP) 2,568,870; EP 2,400,919; EP 2,732,434; and EP 3,401,876.
This is the latest development in 3Shape’s cases against Medit. In January 2020, the German District Court of Dusseldorf ruled that Medit’s i500 intraoral scanner violates 3Shape’s EP 2, 568, 870 B1 on its hole-closing technology, limiting the sale and marketing of Medit’s i500 intraoral scanner in the country.
In July 2022, 3Shape confirmed it had filed a lawsuit in the United States, which asserts that certain Medit intraoral scanner systems, including the i500, i600, i700, and i700 Wireless, infringe a number of 3Shape patents and that the i700 Wireless scanner system infringes a 3Shape patent covering wireless scanning technology. The case was filed with the US District Court for the Western District of Texas. 3Shape is said to be seeking an injunction against Medit, as well as monetary damages.
