Endodontic treatments can provide some of the biggest challenges and most rewarding outcomes for patients and clinicians, but new innovations continue to make saving a patient’s tooth more predictable and less intimidating. Here are the top 5 endodontic products of 2023.
// Irrigation
iVac™ Apical Negative Pressure Irrigation and Activation System
The iVac system is designed to be used during root canal irrigation, and is said to be instrumental in cases where irrigation depth control is crucial, such as with pediatric patients, apexification, regeneration, and apical foramen resorptions. The system’s design allows for the continuous exchange of ultrasonically activated irrigants with constant refreshment into the root canal system throughout the procedure. The iVac uses apical negative pressure with contaminant irrigation, which avoids the risk of irrigant extrusion while allowing the irrigating fluid to clean and disinfect the entire root canal to the working length. The iVac acts safely against the risk of liquid extrusion into the periapical tissue and activating the renewed fluid inside the canal. The system comprises an aspiration/activation cannula with 2 options of outside diameters, 0.35 mm and 0.50 mm.

elements™ Connect and Apex Connect
Designed to work independently or together, Kerr Dental’s elements Connect and Apex Connect are described as a complete shaping solution. elements Connect is a cordless endodontic motor and Apex Connect is an electronic apex locator. elements Connect operates in standard rotary, reciprocation, and adaptive motions, allowing doctors to use their preferred motion during root canal treatment. The motor with Apex Connect can be coupled to unlock real-time working-length reading during instrumentation of the root canal. elements Connect and Apex Connect can be used in tandem by clinicians or as standalone devices to simplify shaping procedures, enhance doctors’ confidence, and aid patient safety. Apex Connect provides users with real-time working-length indications of root canal depth via an easy-to-read, full-color angled display.
// Endodontic Sealer
RE-GEN™ Bioactive Endo Sealer
The RE-GEN Bioactive Endo Sealer is an endo sealer material that is said to provide a variety of benefits including enhanced strength, less shrinkage, a quicker set time, and a faster set. It is an injectable bioactive paste with an MST (material saving tip) Visco-Tip specifically designed to release the right amount of product in a controlled way. It is formulated from Bioglass 45S5, a biomaterial that releases soluble ions that elicit hydroxyapatite in the oral environment. This, combined with its ease of use, results in a powerful seal in the canal. It is also formulated to be antibacterial, creating a high alkaline environment to stop bacteria from forming.

Tri Auto ZX2+
This third-generation cordless endodontic handpiece features an integrated apex locator and a number of new features to enhance ease of use and clinical safety. Now compatible with both rotary and reciprocating files, the Tri Auto ZX2+ offers Optimum Glide Path 2 reciprocating mode that reportedly helps reduce file binding and the risk of files breaking in the canal. It also features optimum torque reverse technology, which works with any file type and reportedly helps prevent jamming and breakage of rotary files by automatically alternating between forward and reverse rotation when the motor encounters resistance in the canal.
// Endodontic Files
FQ
FQ from Komet USA is a rotary, heat-treated endo file system designed for efficiency, flexibility, and longevity. This new file system will join Komet’s family of endodontic systems, adding a rotary, heat-treated option for endodontists to treat root canal cases with maximum efficiency, per a press release from Komet. The FQ line also features a double-S cross section paired with a tapered core for optimal debris removal. This feature is said to be ideal for root canal preparation. The tapered core also lends itself to higher flexibility and large chip space. The FQ has a variety of files to suit any patient’s specific tooth anatomy, and it also contains a high cyclic fatigue resistance that prevents NiTi (nickel titanium) file separation. Komet has discontinued F360 and F6 as the FQ comes to market.
