Dr. Philip Kroll was using another DUX product,  the reversible hydrocolloid, when the company suggested he give ShortCut GingiBRAID a try a little more than a year ago. While quite satisfied with their existing retraction cord product, he and his staff at the California general practice were glad they made the switch.

Dr. Kroll, who serves as an instructor in prosthetic dentistry at UCLA, performs plenty of adhesive dentistry, porcelain veneers, and full-mouth rehabs at his practice. Both he and his team members are happy with their change to ShortCut GingiBRAID because of the consistent results and time savings.

What do you like most about the product?
We began using it and we liked it very much. The thing we really like is how well the dispenser works. Absolutely it is very efficient. To pull it out and cut it and  not need a pair of scissors is very efficient.

I would say the efficiency of the dispensing and cutting mechanism saves a lot of time, and the actual braided retraction cord always has been really a workhorse in retraction for me. We would prefer a braided over the other (types of retraction cords).

How is this used in your practice?
In my particular case I don’t really use the cord much myself. I have assistants who place it as a standard function, and they like it very much. They do 99% of all our retraction and impressions. If it’s a full-mouth rehab then they assist me when I do it, but for the most part, the day to day retraction is all done by assistants.

Why would you recommend this to a colleague?
It’s a good quality product. It’s consistent. From batch to batch there are no surprises. And again the efficiency of the dispensing mechanism is truly a time saver. The consistency and the efficiency are the two words that describe it.

Are there other benefits?
I value product support. Just in general I have to say the DUX company has been one of the best ever when you have technical support questions with any of their products. They’re easy to reach, they always return your call and they go above and beyond making sure that it works for you, and they answer every question.

So as much as it’s the product itself, it’s also the company that backs it.
