Discussing whether your dental practice should hire an insurance coordinator

Our insurance editor, Teresa Duncan, tells you what you need to know.

Teresa Duncan, insurance editor for Dental Products Report and one of the industry’s most knowledgeable experts on the topic of insurance, recently sat down with us to talk about some of the most-asked questions she receives during her lectures around the country.

Duncan tells us that one topic that comes up repeatedly when she talks deals with insurance coordinators, what their roles are, and if dental practices really need to have someone strictly devoted to tracking insurance. She believes the benefits outweigh the costs.

“A lot of dentists ask me if it’s worth hiring someone to just work with insurance and I believe it is,” Duncan said. “Yes it’s another person on the payroll, but think about the amount of time that someone in your practice tries to tackle insurance matters in addition to their normal duties in the practice. There are a lot of insurance matters that could slip through the cracks simply because there’s not enough time in the day. With an insurance coordinator, you have one person who is devoted to one thing and that benefits your business.”
