Millennium Dental Technologies, creator of FDA-cleared LANAP® protocol for the treatment of moderate to severe gum disease and the digital dental laser PerioLase MVP-7, presented periodontal clinical data that supports the LANAP treatment.

Millennium Dental Technologies (MDT) showcased the LANAP technique's clinically proven outcomes and impressive results at the annual meeting of the Academy of OsseoIntegration (AO) in Phoenix this month. Backed by science and advanced research, MDT was the only dental laser manufacturer at the meeting, and attendees were impressed by the full-mouth treatment results as well as implant treatment successes exhibited. In addition, clinicians previewed the company's ground-breaking product-display enhancement for the PerioLase® MVP-7™ featuring the first and only Android™-based control screen in the dental laser industry. The upgrade provides true laser-device upgradability and enhancements using revolutionary components and is fully backward compatible.

"We are proud that the overwhelming science, advanced research and unprecedented clinical outcomes behind the LANAP technique allowed us to make a strong showing at this high-caliber event," says Millennium Dental Technologies president and co-founder Robert H. Gregg II, DDS, a practicing dentist and co-developer of the LANAP protocol for the treatment of gum disease. "To our knowledge, other laser companies lack this type of scientific evidence, and were conspicuous in their absence at this meeting. We were pleased to openly share our proven regenerative outcomes with this group of professionals who certainly understand the importance of bone regrowth extremely well."

In the field of laser dentistry, those who have actively and continuously added to the body of knowledge, innovations, science and manufacturing for an extended period of time are few and far between. Although the LANAP® protocol has been proven in multiple studies, MDT is still committed to acceptance through research. The annual AO meeting provided an ideal opportunity for MDT to review its latest research as well as the LANAP protocol's exciting regenerative results in detail. It also provided a preview of the company's first-of-its-kind integration of Android technology into a laser periodontal-treatment device.

Millennium Dental Technologies co-founders Drs. Gregg and Delwin McCarthy have been dedicated to advanced laser periodontal treatment for more than 20 years. The pair identified the safe and effective combination of operating parameters that evolved into the critical operations of the LANAP protocol through their research in the early 1990s. This month, Dr. Lloyd Tilt, the first periodontist to adopt the technique, published clinical data collected over 12 years of performing the LANAP procedure. The clinical review details impressive tooth survival over time. Dr. Mark Nevins, a LANAP-trained physician since 2009, also added to the LANAP protocol's vast body of research by presenting a human histological study of the treatment that at the American Academy for Periodontology Corporate Forum in November 2011. Perhaps most impressively, last August, the company launched a University-based, five-center study comparing LANAP treatment to traditional scalpel-and-suture gum disease therapy. The study will follow 75 targeted patients for 12 months, with preliminary results expected in 2013.

An increasing number of dental professionals are taking notice of the FDA-cleared procedure for treating gum disease without the traditional, painful cut-and-sew technique. The LANAP protocol utilizes a laser to clear away infection without cutting the gums, resulting in clinically proven regenerative outcomes. Patients experience far less post-operative pain, require fewer treatment sessions and enjoy quicker recovery times and lasting results. To learn more, visit www.lanap.com.
