Dentsply Sirona’s Global Clinical Case Contest (GCCC), is a competition that recognizes dental students with less than 2 years of clinical practice experience, providing them an opportunity to show off their skills with a variety of Dentsply Sirona products and technologies. The 2022-2023 Global Clinical Case Contest saw 260 dental students, each tackling challenging restorative cases with the use of Dentsply products. Eleven finalists made their way to Konstanz, Germany, to join Dentsply Sirona in a final competition where 4 winners were chosen by a jury of highly experienced dental professionals.

Finalists presented their cases before this international jury comprised of Dr Ian Cline of King’s College, Prof Dr Gaetano Paolone of the University of Milan, and Dr Frank Pfefferkorn of Dentsply Sirona. They chose the 4 finalists who presented particularly challenging esthetic cases that utilized Dentsply Sirona materials in a particularly innovative way, per a press release from the company.

The first-place winner was Margherita Feliciotti from the University of Siena, Italy. Feliciotti tackled a tough anterior tooth restoration using Dentsply Sirona’s Prime&Bond active universal adhesive and the Ceram.x Spectra ST composite to offer her patient an esthetically pleasing and strong new smile.

Catharina Glose from the University of Gottingen, Germany was awarded second place for her work with a post-orthodontic restorative case focusing on anterior teeth 12 to 22. Glose used the Etch&Rinse adhesive, Prime&Bond XP, Ceram.x Spectra ST in CLOUD shades, and Ceram.x Spectra ST Effects materials D1 and E1, to craft an improved, esthetic treatment.

There were 2 third-place winners–––Ahmed Kamal from the October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, Egypt, and Yu-Fang Huang of the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, China. Kamal treated a patient for a restoration in the regions 14 through 17 using Prime&Bond Universal, the Palodent V3 matrix system, and Spectra ST while Huang used Prime&Bond Universal and Spectrum TPH3 to restore a juvenile incisor.

These 4 winners received an in-person award at the Dentpsly Sirona center in Konstanz, where first-place recipient Feliciotti remarked on Dentsply Sirona’s willingness and initiative to help patients receive better smiles.

“It is really a privilege to be able to take part in a competition like this and to win is simply an incredible feeling. When I work with patients, I always make the effort to give them a high quality, esthetically pleasing outcome and using the excellent products from Dentsply Sirona with their great design options, enabled me to do exactly that for the patient in this case,” Feliciotti says in the press release. “Seeing the patient with the radiant smile made all the effort worth it. And then winning the prize—I couldn’t wish for more.”

Dentsply Sirona encourages eligible students to begin submitting applications for GCCC 2023-2024 now. Participants will need to provide case images and documentation, as well as tutelage from their respective university.
