Celebrate April Fool’s Day this year by looking at some fun teeth-related goofs, jokes, and pranks from years past.
Each year on April 1, we take time and celebrate April Fool’s Day. It’s a day dedicated to jokes and pranks wherein everyone can get it on the fun. Here, we’ll look at some classic teeth-related April Fool’s pranks to get in the holiday spirit.
Former pro-footballer and current television personality Michael Strahan is well-known for the gap in his 2 front teeth. So much so, that when he announced he was filling the gap between his teeth last year around late March 2021, fans were shocked. There were even pictures that looked like Strahan had filled the gap already. However, on April 1st, he got his joke in when he announced on Twitter, that the gap was here to stay. “It’s not going away anytime soon,” Strahan assured in a video for his followers.
For April Fool’s in 2014, liberal arts Colgate University announced that it would be starting a graduate school of dentistry. This announcement was even followed by a video blurb to celebrate this. This prank worked as it played on that fact that Colgate University shares its name with popular oral care brand Colgate. We know now that Colgate University will be opening no such graduate school, but the production value of this prank made it all the more believable in 2014.
Another April Fool’s prank in 2014, was “Invisalign for Dogs.” This Facebook post from Invisalign got people laughing at the concept of trying to fit clear aligners for sharp canine teeth. Thankfully, no doggy dentists were required, as this ended up being a fun April Fool’s prank.
In perhaps the grosses April Fool’s prank, depending on your taste in breakfast meats, Proctor & Gamble announced a week before April 1, 2013, that it would be releasing a bacon-flavor for its popular Scope mouthwash. To the ire of veggie-fans (and excitement for bacon-lovers) this mouthwash promised to kill germs, freshen breath, and taste just like bacon. It also assured that no, it was not an acceptable substitute for a balanced breakfast. Thankfully, this mouthwash was just an April Fool’s joke, despite having a very believable commercial and website dedicated to the flavor.
Following the trend of home care, savory-flavored products, the Halal Guys announced on Instagram on April 1, 2018, that it would be releasing its famous “White Sauce” as a toothpaste flavor. The savory sauce, which is created to complement the various American Halal food offerings sold at its food carts and restaurants, was seemingly temporarily transformed to toothpaste. Or not. The Halal Guys White Sauce Toothpaste ended up being an elaborate April Fool’s prank. Surprisingly, a few comments seemed on board, though they could have just been playing along with the joke. As of now, The Halal Guys have stuck with food, not toothpaste.
