With its CEREC Meets GALILEOS system Sirona is the first company to combine digital impressions, 3D cone beam imaging and CAD/CAM production to create an integrated digital implant workflow, but competition is on the way.

D4D Technologies is awaiting FDA approval for its E4D Compass system that will bring the intraoral digital impression and CAD/CAM production capabilities of its E4D Dentist™ system together with cone beam data from Gendex’s GXCB-500™/500 HD™ and Imaging Sciences International’s  i-CAT® systems to create an integrated implant workflow.

Roger Dawson, CDT, Lava Design System brand manager for 3M ESPE, said plans also are in the works to integrate cone beam data with digital impressions captured by the company’s Lava C.O.S. systems. Dawson said this integrated system will lead to improved implant outcomes and faster production of implant abutments and restorations.

“All these things in our workflow right now will make it so much faster and so much more predictable for placement as well as the construction of the permanent prosthetic,” he said.
