Most periodontal lasers cut tissue using heat. The Biolase Waterlase iPlus goes another route combining laser energy and a spray of water to cut soft tissue and bone without heat. This creates a no-pain, no-injection, no-drill dental experience, says John Bernhard of Biolase.
“You’re able to go ahead and work many, many restorative procedures without having to numb or inject a patient, which opens up all sorts of possibilities and has many benefits for a dental practice,” said Bernhard as Dental Products Report caught up with him at the 2013 Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting.
The Waterlase® iPlus™ dual-wavelength all-tissue laser features patent-pending “2R Powered” technology, resulting in an Er;Cr:YSGG laser with high-pulse energy at short pulses as well as high-pulse repetition rates for the fast, comfortable removal of hard tooth tissue with a smooth surface finish.
An intuitive applications-based user interface with a large high-resolution touchscreen comes with more than 50 procedure presets. The iPlus "Point and Perform" graphical user interface instantly programs ideal settings for each procedure you select.
“From not having to wait for the onset of anesthetic, to doctors being able to work in multiple quadrants in the same visit” and more, Bernhard says the benefits are well-documented. Plus, the iPlus also cuts hard-tissue as fast as conventional drills, but without the discomfort or risk of cross contamination.
Bernhard says anyone interested can always request more information on the WaterLase iPlus from how to increase their revenue stream with the laser, how to implement it in their practice and much more. He adds that patient positive reactions to the laser are also a boost.
He suggests everyone check out the Biolase Facebook page to see the comments.
