A look at some of the newest dental product launches in the industry.
The PORTRAY system is a nanotechnology-based 3D imaging system offering high-resolution x-ray image quality. The 3D image provides layer by layer virtual dissection of the oral cavity, depth information, and removal of structural overlap. The system utilizes an articulating arm, enabling the x-ray source to be placed in any configuration to meet dentists’ needs. The 3D intraoral system has a reconstruction algorithm that produces an image stack. The software package is designed to be capable of acquiring and manipulating images as well. The loupe feature allows for concentrated 3D reconstruction in real-time on a localized region. PORTRAY’s software is also capable of connecting with existing patient and practice management systems.
The 3D intraoral system is capable of producing a stationary, high-resolution x-ray 3D image through the use of carbon nanotube (CNT)-based x-ray sources. CNT x-ray sources were developed and patented by Surround Medical Systems over a decade ago. The sources are able to produce electron beams identical to conventional x-ray sources but without producing heat on the cathode, allowing for the placement of multiple x-ray sources within a single x-ray tube.
Designed for additive manufacturing, Valplast flexible partials come with an unconditional lifetime warranty against breakage and fracture of the denture base. Said to be produced at a lower cost than other methods—metal and acrylic, injection, and milling—Valplast requires little to no adjustment, meaning less chair time. Its digital platform for fast ordering reduces turnaround time, with approximate delivery in under a week.
Valplast offers natural movement of teeth and the mouth. The 3D printed partials are said to fit more than 95% of the time with fewer adjustments, meaning no more back and forth with labs. Its fast and easy digital workflow makes uploading scans or downloading shipping labels directly from the platform easy and simple. These partials are esthetic, comfortable, noninvasive, and metal-free.
Primeprint for dental practices and laboratories is the first of a new generation of Dentsply Sirona devices designed to transform digital dentistry. With a simplified, automated printing process, this new 3D printing solution makes it easy to manufacture patient-specific and biocompatible appliances. The printer uses digital light processing technology by which resins are polymerized using UV light. The light projector hardens the resin layer by layer. Primeprint as a 3D printing solution also automates the postprocessing of printed objects, which previously would have required complex, messy, and time-consuming manual work.
This solution will be the first new device by the company specifically built to integrate into the digital universe the company is creating with its digital technology partner Google Cloud to connect many parts of the dental practice and dental lab across a vast array of procedures. The collaboration will generate new digital solutions for dentistry, powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms at scale and supported by an integrated cloud solution. It will have a consistent user interface and user experience across its devices and services that will be as simple to use as a smartphone app.
Editor's Choice: Its 2 wavelengths can be used individually or together,
providing 3 wavelength modes.
The Gemini EVO laser combines the benefits of higher 100-watt peak power with the versatility of dual-wavelength design. The 100 watts of super-pulsed power provide faster cutting, less heat, and clean incisions in soft tissue. The 2 wavelengths (810 nm and 980 nm) can be used individually or together, providing 3 wavelength modes. The Gemini EVO laser has 16 preset procedures divided into 3 categories for efficient, intuitive use. Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity makes it easy to update software or obtain technical support and allows the laser to sync with the dashboard to provide you with valuable data about your machine and procedures. Three photobiomodulation adapters are included so you can take full advantage of your new dental laser.
VOCO Retraction Paste is an astringent paste with aluminum chloride designed to widen and dry the gingival sulcus, creating the ideal conditions for accurate and successful digital or conventional impressions. It features a custom-engineered capsule with a long, fine, flexible plastic tip rather than metal said to avoid damage to the gingiva and allow for precise application. Its 2-stage viscosity makes for simple application. First, the paste easily flows under low pressure out of the capsule into the sulcus with minimal extrusion force. Its viscosity increases to remain stable as it temporarily widens the sulcus. At 0.3 g per cap, VOCO’s Retraction Paste capsules contain enough material for up to 3 teeth. The material comes in a bright turquoise blue color, providing high contrast to tooth structure and gingiva and ensuring that the paste is visible.
Planmeca USA has announced the launch of the Planmeca PlanMill 35, a new wet/dry chairside mill. The PlanMill 35 is a part of the Planmeca FIT® CAD/CAM system and is meant to assist practices looking to boost their single-visit dentistry. The PlanMill 35 can use materials such as zirconia, glass and hybrid ceramics, and composites, among materials. The Planmeca Emerald™ S is now said to have an increased scanning speed, improved accuracy, and ease of use. Other improvements include the Planmeca PlanCAD® software being fully integrated into the Planmeca Romexis® platform for quicker crown design.
Henry Schein One’s analytics platform, Jarvis Analytics, is now available for private dental practices. Jarvis Analytics for Private Practices is designed based on the original platform for dental service organizations. New features are said to be simplified for practice members to collect and analyze data, automate workflows, identify operations, understand patient behaviors, and make decisions according to the data. Jarvis collects the data from the practice management system present in the dental practice and collates it in reports and digestible dashboards. Jarvis Analytics works with Dentrix®, Dentrix Ascend®, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, and Denticon.
Editor's Choice: Online user portal with expert support helps to integrate OraFit aligners seamlessly.
OraPharma’s OraFit custom clear aligner system is indicated for malocclusion and misalignment correction using materials in a 3-layer design for better esthetics and more comfort. The plastic material used to create the OraFit custom aligners is said to be more crack resistant and to maintain clarity for longer. Included in the system is an online resource for dental professionals to submit clear aligners cases and approve treatment plans. OraFit will benefit patients who may be reluctant to use clear aligners for the sake of esthetics.
With UltraCraft ChairSide and ChairSide Pro, users can easily complete the 3D printing process for multiple dental applications with a minimal amount of training, eliminating the need to hire specialized staff or outsource production. The UltraCraft ChairSide + AirWash + AirCure combination is a lightweight desktop 3D printing system that provides efficiency, speed, and reliability. The solution is specifically optimized for dental practices and can go from scan to product within 30 minutes depending on the application.
Editor's Choice: DRS High-Speed Zirconia Kit adds a Ceramill Therm DRS sintering furnace for rapid finishing of restorations fabricated from zirconia blocks.

Sensei Cloud has introduced new features that are designed to help dentists elevate their practices and provide better, more efficient patient care. The new Soft Tissue Chart allows doctors to keep detailed records of findings with notes on an anatomical chart. As oral cancer screening becomes increasingly important and the related documentation becomes standard of care, keeping track of these findings in a patient’s clinical record can help increase early detection. Sensei Cloud’s Lightbar feature aids in patient flow and time management. The Seated Queue flyout bar shows when the patient was seated, the time of the scheduled appointment, provider names, and the appointment type.
