A new digital drug reference guide called ADA/PDR Dental Therapeutics Online is available for download at the American Dental Association’s website.

The guide, which is a digital version of Dental Therapeutics and the Physician’s Desk Reference 3D database of drugs, is arranged in three sections.  The first section focuses on dentist-prescribed drugs, offering guidance so practitioners can safely and readily prescribe medications with a full understanding of their indications, adverse effects and interactions.  The second section covers physician-prescribed drugs, presenting abbreviated information that emphasizes each drug’s role in dental diagnosis and treatment planning.  Section 3 focuses on issues linked to dental pharmacology that affect dental practices, offering evidence-based information on herbs and dietary supplements, as well as online resources from the ADA Council of Scientific Affairs demonstrating its support of advances in dental science.

Other features of the guide include a chapter from the ADA Council of Scientific Affairs that provides easy access to dental therapeutics and oral health information; comprehensive data on dosage, interactions, precautions, and adverse effects; tables on dental therapeutic agents that offer fast access to commonly used drugs in dentistry; an evidence-based overview of herbs and dietary supplements; a chapter covering the oral manifestations of systemic agents; and an appendices covering drug-related issue linked to substance abuse, tobacco-use cessation and more.
