When: Suitable for virtually any restoration and compatible with any bonding technique, this dual-cured material can also be used in deep restorations that light does not reach.

Why: TheraBase employs THERA technology to chemically bond to tooth structure and release calcium and fluoride ions, generating an alkaline pH* that is said to promote pulp health.1 TheraBase is reportedly stronger than other base materials, such as glass ionomers and resin-modified glass ionomers.* The self-adhesive material eliminates the need for a bonding agent.

*How: The material uses THERA hydrophilic matrix, allowing for an exchange of ions as water goes into the matrix. The result is a release of calcium hydroxide and fluoride ions, which allows for the creation of an alkaline pH.* TheraBase’s flexural and compressive strength measure at about 200 MPa after light curing, which reportedly increases durability and makes the material less prone to fracture compared with similar base materials, such as glass ionomers and resin-modified glass ionomers.*
