Check out the products and innovations you missed at this year’s meeting.

It wasn’t always sunny this year in southern California, but the dental industry braved a few downpours and enjoyed the sun when it appeared while taking in all the educational opportunities and innovations on display at the 2019 CDA Presents Anaheim conference.

Lectures and courses covered a wide range of clinical and practice management topics, but this wrap-up is focused on what was on display in the bustling exhibit hall where companies put their latest innovations, fresh looks and new offers on display. New technologies for both general practitioners and specialists were showcased, along with equipment and operatory aides designed to make practicing dentistry more efficient and exciting.

Traverse rotary glidepath files and elements e-motion Endodontic Motor from KaVo Kerr

KaVo Kerr held a press conference to announce its latest endodontic offerings, a new motor for smoother endodontic procedures and an innovative glidepath file designed for simplified establishment of a glide path.

The elements e-motion Endodontic Motor is a compact system that’s said to provide more efficient cutting while protecting against file separations and transportation via its next-generation Adaptive Motion Technology. Small and light, the motor is controlled via a customizable touchscreen interface that supports programmable file sequences and comes preloaded with a database of 196 file settings. Four handpiece mounting options are available, making the system comfortable for both right- and left-handed users, while the smaller handpiece head increases operative visibility.

Along with the new motor, KaVo Kerr introduced Traverse, a rotary glidepath file designed to make establishing a glide path simpler and easier. The Traverse file creates an ideal taper in the glidepath, which is said to reduce the workload of shaping files. Featuring a triangular cross section, the nickel-titanium file is fabricated with Variable Heat Treatment technology to provide enhanced flexibility and strength. Both innovations from KaVo Kerr are designed for faster, easier and more effective endodontic treatment.

X-Mind Prime CBCT unit from ACTEON North America

The first impression of the latest 3D imaging system from ACTEON North America is how compact the system actually is. A wall-mounted cone beam imaging system, the X-Mind Prime is designed to bring simple, efficient 3D imaging to almost any practice. ACTEON’s Senior Imaging Manager Tom Davis says the unit weighs approximately 140 pounds, and it can be installed in just one hour by a single technician.

While the unit itself is small, its set of features is robust, and it’s designed to work with the same, full-featured, open-architecture imaging software as the larger X-Mind Trium system. The Prime offers three fields of view as well as panoramic imaging, and Davis says it’s an ideal entry to 3D imaging, offering ideal scans for third molar cases, implant treatment and TMJ diagnosis as well as impression and model scanning for digital dental workflows.

Aurident Aoralscan intraoral scanner

A well-known name to dental laboratories, Aurident is somewhat new to the clinical side of the dental industry. As a way of entering the clinical side of the industry, the company is launching a new, affordable intraoral scanning option with its Aoralscan system. This open-architecture digital impression system designed by Shining 3D is suited for a range of indications, including restorative cases, orthodontics and implants. Quick to capture a scan, it works without the need for a contrast powder and is said to capture realistic color and clear margins.

Dryshield single-use mouthpieces

Dryshield is expanding the options for its intraoral isolation system with a new line of single-use mouthpieces. Available in pedo, small, medium and large sizes, the new single-use mouthpieces are designed to provide the same efficiency, enhancing isolation as the company’s original autoclavable mouthpieces but in a convenient, disposable option. The single-use mouthpieces were created based on input from customers who like the benefits of the isolation system but didn’t want to have to manage the sterilization of each mouthpiece after each case.

Fusion operatory package from DentalEZ and Forest Dental

Designed to provide dental practices with a high-quality patient chair and treatment center, the Fusion Operatory Package includes a patient chair, dental unit and light, and it’s available in either pivot or fixed with sidebox configurations. It’s said to be fabricated with tight tolerances between parts and quality bearings, hydraulics and electronics to make a well-designed and functional operatory an affordable option.
