Associate agreements

March 21, 2012

You’ve found the right associate to work in the practice and to assist in its growth. There are many issues to be settled to ensure that the associate has accepted the parameters of the job description reflective of the compensation, benefits and responsibilities agreed upon. To protect the owner and the associate, these points should be in writing and executed by the parties so when questions arise, the agreement can be reviewed and answers found without the necessity for litigation because of the vague nature of a contract.

The behavior of change

March 21, 2012

Changing human behavior is not impossible, just almost impossible! This statement is easy to garner agreement around since most oral health care providers have experienced it on a personal as well as a professional level. A personal example many can relate to is losing weight which requires dietary habit changes, or getting more fit which requires additional exercise. Even when desiring the outcome the habit change would provide, changing a habit is challenging, and so the desired outcome is often elusive.

A closer Look at clinical hypnosis

March 21, 2012

There are various psychological theories of how hypnotic trance works. The simplest explanation is to go to its origins, viewing hypnotic trance as an instinctive behavioral response of primal man to cognitively modulate his fight or flight psyche stress. In other words primal man used  rapid trance to  instinctually dissociate from the stress and conflict of the reality of a survival threat. This provided  him the time space in his mind to problem solve a fighting tactic and/or an escape route of which to become absorbed in.

March 21, 2012

With the economic prosperity of the eighties, and advances in esthetic dentistry and technology, many dentists became of the opinion that treating new patient emergencies was a waste of the dentist’s and team’s time. Symptomatic of this is what one heard when calling such a dental practice after hours: “If you are a patient of record with an extreme dental emergency you may call xxx-yyy-zzzz.” New patients were deliberately discouraged from calling.

Should you be hypnotizing your patients?

March 21, 2012

In 20 minutes, Dr. David Grayson was able to help a 7-year-old girl to stop habitually sucking her thumb. He’s helped patients quit smoking, and he’s performed dental procedures without using a drop of anesthetic. He’s eased his patients’ fears and enabled them to get treatment they may otherwise have opted not to receive. And he’s done it all through clinical hypnosis.

Like any specialty area of practice, providing implants services comes with some upfront costs. Everyone was in a panic, requesting last minute assistance with what may be owed on their federal and state tax obligations for 2009.
