DMG America LLC introduced the DMG MiniDam, a new style of latex-free gingival protection device that is said to be small enough to be placed quickly and easily, protect the proximal area during treatment and provide comfortable gingival coverage for patients.
The product's unique shape reportedly allows it to self-stabilize around adjacent teeth where it securely maintains its position without the use of clamps. Launched at the 2015 American Dental Association meeting, the DMG MiniDam can be used for cosmetic and restorative procedures, including bleaching and acid etching, or when placing DMG's resin infiltration treatment Icon.
Protecting the gingiva and maintaining a dry field are particularly important during many dental procedures. Some clinicians may find traditional dental dam systems to be complicated and somewhat cumbersame. DMG MiniDam reportedly couldn't be simpler and was designed to be placed in just a few seconds. The clinician prestretches the silicone material, which already has holes integrated into it, and simply pulls it over the teeth to be treated. The slim, flexible interproximal shield setles between the teeth, stabilizes itself and then maintains gingival protection both between andn around teeth. This is designed to provide the clinician with a relatively dry working area, unlimited access and an unobstructed view and the patient with comfortable protection from the materials being used.
