Let’s face it … the dental assistant is the heartbeat of the dental practice. Of course, everyone plays a vital role in the practice’s success, but there’s no one who holds things together on a daily basis more than the assistant.
Let’s face it … the dental assistant is the heartbeat of the dental practice. Of course, everyone plays a vital role in the practice’s success, but there’s no one who holds things together on a daily basis more than the assistant.
In my 15 years of working in the dental publishing industry, I’ve been amazed time and time again to hear stories about the awesome things dental assistants do on a daily basis to make the practice move forward and to make patients feel more comfortable. Hey, you know as well as I do that the dentist can recommend something and when he or she leaves the room, the patient will turn to you and ask for your opinion. That’s because they believe in you and what you have to say. That’s a big responsibility and one that we will help you with in future issues of Modern Dental Assistant.
I’m blessed to be able to lecture all over the country on the topic of “Battling and Beating the Demons of Dental Assisting” (come see me in Phoenix in March) and meet assistants and here about their joys and frustrations, their dreams and their hopes, and what they truly do on a daily basis that so often goes unnoticed. During my lecture, I tell dental assistants to sit down and make a list of all of the things they do for the dental practice on a daily and weekly basis. I will guess that no one in the practice (maybe not even you) knows how much sweat equity you have in the practice’s success.
In the inaugural issue of Modern Dental Assistant (MDA), we’re going to take those first steps in helping assistants get more enjoyment and fulfillment out of their careers. Yes, I believe dental assisting is a great career option and we’re going to show you various ways to get the most out of every day in MDA.

I’ve assembled an awesome Editorial Advisory Board made up of amazing people and personal friends who have chatted with me for countless hours about the current and future of dental assisting. Trust me when I say we all believe in you and truly appreciate what you do on a daily basis. You can also believe me when I say that MDA will make a difference for you.
